A long holiday will need specialist travel insurance.

Do not automatically assume the policy available from the travel agent or your bank will be sufficient, especially if you intend to partake in adventurous activities, work abroad or if you have pre-existing medical conditions.

A long holiday may leave your home unoccupied for a long period of time. Make sure you check that your home insurance does not impose restrictions on your policy if you are away form your home for more than 14 days.
