Hobbies, Clubs & Societies
If you are involved with a club or society or have a hobby you may need to consider insurance:
Property and possessions – these may need insuring against damage or theft. In some instances if they are your own possessions you may be able to include these within household insurance, alternatively a separate policy may be more appropriate.
Club Liabilities – Public liability insurance is sensible for clubs and societies and normally covers all members should they cause injury or damage. If anyone works for the club, even unpaid you will need employers liability insurance should they be hurt whilst carrying out club activities. Committee Members should not underestimate how they personally could be faced with a claim, Directors & Officers or Trustees insurance is designed to protect these essential but vulnerable individuals.
Individuals – if your hobby is potentially dangerous to others you need to consider public liability insurance. This may be included within household insurance but this needs checking. If the activity is potentially dangerous to you then you should think about taking Personal Accident insurance which will pay you a benefit if you are injured and unable to work, this can even be taken out by a whole club for all its members.
