Tax increase on Insurance - 22 June 2010
The emergency budget today (22/06//10) has announced an increase in insurance premium tax. The standard rate of insurance will increase from 5% - 6%, whilst the higher rate of 17.5% will increase to 20%. This will take effect from 04/01/11. It is predicted that this will raise £0.5 by year 2014-15. Most insurance policies fall within the standard level of tax, with travel insurance and extended warranty insurance being subject to the higher level.
