So far in 2020, parts of the UK have suffered some of the highest flood waters seen in recent history. Many homes and businesses have been decimated by these unexpectedly high waters.

Whether or not you are used to flooding, when the waters start to subside, thoughts turn to recovering from the disaster.

This Disaster Recovery Checklist will help.

Of course, one of the key considerations is safety: yours, your employees, your building. So always obey the emergency services and don’t enter your property until told it is safe to do so. A primary action is to contact your insurer and/or broker to get wheels in motion for your claim, if you have flood insurance.

Something people often don’t realise, is that, when removing wet contents from the building, don’t dispose of items until authorised by your insurer.

And once the water has gone, and you are starting your repairs, do consider flood resilient materials and designs that will make recovery easier next time.
