street party insurance

Do I need insurance if I’m organising a Street Party?

With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations only a few weeks away, preparations for street parties are in full swing and with so many restrictions that have been in place over the last couple of years, these celebrations will be bigger and better than ever before. With the main day for street parties being organised for Friday 3rd June, we look at how the right insurance cover could help safeguard your celebrations:

What could go wrong with my street party?

Injuries and accidents are top of the list when considering what can go wrong with your street party. When the drinks are flowing, trips on loose cables or uneven ground can easily happen but if this resulted in serious injury who would be liable? Plus, there is always the risk of food poisoning at outdoor events in the summer, as refrigeration is often limited and food is left out for long periods of time.

Damage to property can result in serious financial losses if the right insurance is not in place. For example, a fence could be broken or an outdoor sound system could be damaged. But you might also be a victim of theft. If your house is left unattended then this is an ideal opportunity for criminals to take advantage of the situation.

Also, there is always the British weather that can cause disruption or cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances like storms and flooding. We will all be hoping for fine weather during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations but if you have event cancellation insurance in place you know you will be covered.

What type of insurance might I need for my street party?

At Sutcliffe & Co Insurance Brokers, we can advise you on single event insurance cover as part of your party preparations. Public liability insurance will often be the main area of cover but we can also advise you whether you may need employers’ liability insurance and equipment cover. We know that finding insurance for your street party may not be top of your to-do list, but careful planning now could mean you’re not out of pocket later!
