Sutcliffe & Co announces three-year sponsorship of Worcester City Runs
As a fourth-generation company with deep roots in Worcester, Sutcliffe & Co champions the city we work in, and jumped at the chance to become the new headline sponsor for Worcester City Runs for the next three years. This popular event is in its eleventh year for 2025, annually attracting around 5,000 participants and thousands of supporters lining the routes to cheer the runners on.
The Worcester City Runs consists of multiple categories across the weekend of 13-14 September which are open to all ages, including the Worcester City 10K and Half Marathon, Young Athletes Runs, Paula Radcliffe’s Families on Track and XO Races urban orienteering.
One of the largest annual events in Worcester, the Worcester City Runs was launched in 2014 by Events of the North, in partnership with Worcester City Council and Worcestershire County Council. Founder of the event, British running icon Steve Cram, is deeply passionate about what the event can bring to the community, seeing the weekend as a celebration of grassroots interest in running. He hopes the weekend’s events will widen the appeal of running to those who have never tried it, plus those who might be lapsed runners. The notion of inclusivity extends to friends and family to come and support, plus to the benefit of charities for whom many will be running to raise vital funds.
A new initiative for 2025 to boost the appeal of running to all ages and abilities is the Worcester City Runs (WCR) Real Ambassadors programme, which has been devised specifically to encourage more people to get active through running. There are five ambassadors for 2025 who each have a personal motivation to run the 10k, including Sutcliffe and Co’s very own Sue Smith. Sue, along with the other ambassadors, has been given a place in the event and has her very own individual package of support to help get her to the finish line. Sue could be fairly described as a ‘reluctant runner’ and her aim is to complete the 10k without stopping.
Managing Director of Sutcliffe and Co, Duncan Sutcliffe, commented:
“We are thrilled to be the new headline sponsor of the Worcester City Runs and partner Events of the North for the next three years. As one of the largest annual events in the city, it not only brings in thousands of visitors to the local area, but it is also instrumental in raising thousands of pounds for charities in our community.”
“Sutcliffe & Co is passionate about promoting health and wellbeing, with keen runners in the team at our Worcester office. We are proud that our team manager, Sue Smith, has become a Worcester City Runs Real Ambassador and will be putting on her trainers to share her journey as a novice runner, through to completing the event in September”.
Best of luck with your training Sue, and we can’t wait to cheer you on in September!
